“What happens once you’ve been fortunate enough to create some wealth is that you begin to think that you’re invincible, and that because you’re wealthy, you have some kind of overarching control,” he says. “It can be kind of heady. Giving people checks can create a sense of entitlement and power. When you have other people giving with you who are smart and competent, they can hold checks and balances, and remind you that your answer is not necessarily the right one.”
